Hyderabad: The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry & World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) jointly organised a one-day International Seminar on “Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and Madrid System, 2025,” in association with Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India, at Dr MCR HRD Institute. The industry leaders, startups, innovators, researchers, and policy makers, who attended the training program, discussed the ever-evolving landscape of patents and international intellectual property protection.

Dr Shashank Goel, IAS, Director General, Dr MCR HRD Institute, & EO Special Chief Secretary, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, said Intellectual Property is the backbone of a knowledge-driven economy, and this platform will help innovators, startups, and businesses understand the strategic advantages of filing patents under the PCT route.

Dr Shashank Goel, IAS, highlighted that India is emerging as a global innovation hub, driven by the Start-up India Initiative, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India Program and so on. He also stated India has witnessed an unprecedented rise in patent filings, reflecting the growing emphasis on research, development, and technological advancements. David Muls, Senior Director, Madrid Registry, WIPO, Geneva, emphasised that India is at the heart of the evolving innovation landscape, ranking 39th in the 2024 Global Innovation Index and leading in Central / Southern Asia.
